Hello and welcome to Retell Seller, a podcast about what ephemera can still tell us even years after it was created. I’m Angie and for the last 10 years I’ve been a reseller of mainly vintage items, from lighting to linens, electronics, to books, and of course ephemera. Pieces of the past. I love finding ephemera of all kinds and I’ll read them here, not to explain them, but to wonder about them.
I’m not here with answers. This is just an invitation to listen, reflect, and maybe ask ourselves something new. Don’t worry though. Not all I read will require any reflection or explanation at all. It could just be an advertisement from the seventies for some new winter gloves or a crafty how-to from the fifties. Even a sticky note with an upcoming doctor’s appointment. The curiosity has been sparked. What type of doctor? Was it a checkup or something more serious?
Whether it’s a letter, short note, newspaper clipping, or a piece of familial history, these are someone’s thoughts paused in time. While I’m sure the structure of the podcast will change as I see what works and what doesn’t, I’m sure it’ll come together naturally.
Episodes could be short and they could be long. If I remember where I found a piece, I’ll be sure to share along with any odd or interesting details from the sourcing experience. Some of what I read will be lighthearted or funny. Others might be sad, even devastating. If something in an episode might be tough to hear, I’ll do my best to give you a heads up.
Not that I’ve come across many questionable things, but as of right now, I’m not sure the things I’ll shy away from sharing, but all will be honest to the moment in time in which they were written because sometimes a scrap paper from decades ago can sound a lot like something you heard just yesterday.
Now, I have opinions just like anybody else but, they’re rarely needed, and I believe it pertains to this podcast too. It’s not nostalgia, it’s human.
