Today’s episode is just a postcard pause, meaning it’s gonna be short. I find this one to be really interesting and strange, and a mystery we may never understand. Today’s postcard is a dingy, stained one, although it is already a tan or beige color to start with. The artwork is by Tom Yad, Y-A-D. The writing and design is dark brown in color.

The front of the card is an image of a child wearing a floppy hat, and he’s holding a small dog. The boy’s arms are wrapped around, under the dog’s front legs, so the dog’s back is up against the boy’s chest.
The postcard says, “Smile, dern it. All that mug of yours will hold.” Underneath this, the writer of the card writes a small note, still on the front of the card, and it reads, “An inch of smile is worth two big pessimistic feet. Yelp.”
Turning the card over, down the left side vertically, it says, “Sepia Yad Kids,” Yad being the same name as the artist. It’s postmarked August 21st, 3:00 PM, 1911, out of Winfield, Kansas, with the green one-cent Benjamin Franklin stamp.
The message written starts, “8/22/11 Winfield, Kansas. Dear sir, how’s the devil? Also, how’s Ross? if it don’t rain directly, it’s goodbye aquarium, and it takes a dead carcass to feed the fishes. Don’t get dried up like a herring. Be good. Sincerely, C.E.H.”
Now, can someone just explain this to me? I’d appreciate it 🤣
